Redmen roll past Blue Devils, 51-13

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — It was the tale of the two halves for the Blue Devils as they graciously fell 51-13 to the visiting Rock Hill Redmen in a Week 8 Ohio Valley Conference matchup at Memorial Field on Hall of Fame Night in the Old French City.

Gallia Academy (0-8, 0-5 OVC) received the opening kick-off and marched down the field in fashion. The Blue Devils used their first opportunity with the football and showed Rock Hill (6-2, 3-2 OVC) how to score.

With 6:38 remaining in the first quarter, Justin McClelland connected a 15-yard touchdown pass to Cory Call and a successful PAT by Ty Howell gave GAHS a 7-0 lead.

Rock Hill decided they could do the exact same thing. At the 3:16 mark of the first quarter, Mason Darby rushed for an 18-yard touchdown, allowing the Blue Devils to maintain a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Rock Hill decided to kick it up a notch with 9:03 remaining until halftime as Logan Hankins scored on a three-yard touchdown run. After a failed two-point conversion pass, the Redmen took the lead at 12-7.

With 1:10 remaining in the first half, Mason Darby had a 15-yard touchdown run and an successful two-point conversion pass connection from Darby to Tyler Damron gave Rock Hill a 20-7 advantage.

The Blue Devils made sure that they were going to score just before they went into the locker room, and they did complete this task with 14 seconds left as Justin McClelland connected on an 11-yard touchdown pass to Colton Campbell, allowing Gallia Academy to pull within seven at the half at 20-13.

The Redmen opened up the third quarter with a quick two-minute drive. At the 9:50 mark of the third quarter, Zak Adkins rushed for a 38-yard touchdown to push the lead to 26-13.

After GAHS went three-and-out, Logan Hankins of RHHS ran for a 77-yard touchdown to push the lead out to 38-13.

With 1:01 remaining in the third quarter, Zak Adkins ran for an 84-yard touchdown and a successful PAT by Cameron Barnette gave the Redmen a lead of 45-13 through three quarters of play.

With 9:03 remaining in the game, Gabe Kidd ran for a 19-yard touchdown to wrap up the final score of 51-13. RHHS outscored the Blue Devils 31-0 in the second half.

Logan Hankins led the Redmen in rushing with 16 carries for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Gabe Kidd had eight carries for 45 yards and one touchdown, while Mason Darby had seven carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Darby was also 0-for-1 passing for zero yards.

RHHS had 32 total first downs, 559 rushing yards and three penalties for 25 yards.

Justin McClelland led the Blue Devils in passing with a 10-of-20 effort for 103 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. McClelland also led the Blue and White in rushing with 16 carries for 51 yards.

Boo Pullins had six carries for nine yards. Wyatt Sipple had four carries for four yards. Clay Plymale had two carries for seven yards.

Cory Call led GAHS in receiving with four receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown. Garrett Burns had three receptions for 15 yards. Colton Campbell had two receptions for 30 yards and one touchdown. Wyatt Sipple had one reception for six yards.

GAHS had a team total of 11 first downs, 103 passing yards and 70 rushing yards. The Blue Devils also had one penalty for 15 yards.

Gallia Academy will travel to face the Ironton Tigers at the Ironton Tanks Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
