GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — The Southern High School golf team made good in its second Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division match on Monday, defeating host South Gallia in a league dual tilt at Cliffside Golf Club in Gallipolis.
The Tornadoes, which won at Wahama nine days ago, are now 2-0 in the TVC-Hocking — conquering the young Rebels 195-247 on the Cliffside back-side nine holes.
Federal Hocking was originally scheduled to be part of Monday’s match, but does not have a team this season.
The Rebels, with all three of their league matches thus far held on the home course of Cliffside, are 0-6 in the TVC-Hocking.
On Monday, Southern had six players participate in the match — and another five extra players not competing in the match.
The top four individual scores count towards the team total, as South Gallia only had four golfers competing.
Four Tornadoes shot 50 or better, paced by a pair of 48s from Jensen Anderson and Tanner Thorla.
Jarrett Hupp had a 49 and Ryan Acree a 50 for the other Southern counting cards.
Jonah Hoback and Eli Hunter had a pair of 54s for the Tornadoes.
South Gallia junior Curtis Hanner was the match medalist with an eight-over-par 44, as Bryce Nolan shot a 66, Myah Howell a 67 and McKenzie Martin a 70.
The five Tornadoes which were not involved in the match posted the following nine-hole scores: Trey Wood with a 56, Ashley Acree with a 57, Landen Hill with a 64, Joey Weaver with a 64 and Clay Wamsley with a 72.
Southern returned to the road, and returned to TVC-Hocking Division action, on Tuesday at Belpre at Oxbow Golf Club.
The Tornadoes will now host another TVC-Hocking match on Thursday against both Eastern and Miller.
Tee-off time is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Meigs County Golf Course.
