River Valley takes third at Athens Open

THE PLAINS, Ohio — The Athens girls and the Warren boys claimed the teams titles at the Athens Open, hosted by AHS on Wednesday.

The Warriors posted a team total of 142, while the Athens boys team was second with 126. River Valley placed third with 102, Logan Elm was fourth with 69, and Southern took fifth with 44. A total of 11 teams scored in the boys competition.

Three RVHS relay teams finished third in the meet, they were the 4x100m team of Jarret McCarley, Mark Wray, Jacob Campbell and Dayton Hardway (47.05), the 4x400m quartet of Wray, Isaiah Beach, Caleb McKnight and Jacob Kemper (3:44.46), and the 4x800m squad of Kyle Coen, Nathaniel Abbott, Garrett Young and Kemper (8:50.55).

The Raiders’ lone top finish was by Andrew Moffett, who won the 100m dash with a time of 11.80. Beach was second in the 110m hurdles (16.24), Wray was second in the 300m hurdles (43.57), Eric Weber claimed second in the discus throw (123-1), while Coen finished third in the 800m run (2:14.21).

Connor Wolfe led the Tornadoes — claiming second in the 800m run (2:09.57) and the 1600m run (4:46.17) — while Riley Roush took third in the 100m dash (11.88).

The Lady Bulldogs scored a 199 to win the girls competition, while Warren was second (128.50) and River Valley was third (102). Southern claimed seventh out of 10 teams, with a score of 18.

The RVHS 4x400m relay team of Sarah Moffett, Abby Campbell, Kenzie Baker and Ieva Katkauskaite won with a time of 4:28.17, while the 4x200m relay team of Sarah Moffett, Hannah Nutter, Katkauskaite and Campbell was second with a time of 1:56.49. In the 4x800m relay, the quartet of Baker, Josie Jones, Beth Gillman and Leanne Hively claimed third with a time of 11:37.70.

Sarah Moffett won the 400m dash (1:02.67) and finished third in the 200m dash (28.73), while Katkauskaite was second in the 400m dash (1:03.67). In the girls’ shot put Kelsey Brown was second (29-7) and Brianna McGuire was third (28-6) for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Tornadoes — who didn’t have a top-3 finisher — were led by Jane Roush and Kamryn Smith, both of whom came away with one fifth finish and one sixth place finish.
