POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — A total of 11 Point Pleasant wrestlers picked up at least one victory Wedneday night, as the Big Blacks hosted a quad match with Buckhannon-Upshur, Parkersburg and Riverside.
PPHS — which was without the services of 2015 state runner-up Grant Safford — finished 1-2 as a team, defeating the Buccaneers 48-27, while falling to the Big Reds 54-19 and the Warriors 42-34.
Point Pleasant’s top grappler of the day was 106-pound freshman George Smith, who went 3-0. Five Big Blacks came away with 2-1 records on Wednesday, while five more finished with 1-2 marks.
PPHS freshman Luke Wilson went 2-1 at the 113 weight class, junior Andrew Roach was 2-1 at the 170 level, while seniors Tannor Hill, Hunter White and Scotty Wilcox were each 2-1 in the 220, 182 and 120 catagories respectively.
Claiming a 1-2 mark in the 132 class was freshman Jeffery Simpkins, while sophomore Jacob Roub was 1-2 at the 138 level. Big Blacks senior Chris Lush was 1-2 at the 145-pound weight class, while freshmen Miles Williams and Colton Carr were 1-2 at the 152 and 160 levels respectively.
Point Pleasant will have a bit of a break in competition, not returning to action until the WSAZ Invitational on January 22 and 23.
