BELPRE, Ohio — The Golden Eagles figured if they couldn’t have a winning streak, then nobody should.
One week after having its five-game winning streak ended, the Belpre football team halted Eastern’s string of four straight wins with a 30-7 victory in Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division action on Friday at Ralph Holder Stadium in Washington County.
After a scoreless first quarter, Belpre (6-2, 5-1 TVC Hocking) broke the tie with 3:23 remaining in the half, as Connor Baker scored on a 19-yard run. Tyce Church kicked in the extra point to make it a 7-0 game, and then made it 10-0 with a 31-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Belpre’s lead grew to 17-0 5:13 into the second half, as Baker scored on a one-yard run and Church made the point-after.
Eastern (4-5, 4-3) cut the deficit back to 10 points with 2:42 left in the third, as Nate Durst scored on an one-yard run and Mollie Maxon kicked in the extra point.
Belpre — which had 249 yards of total offense, 244 of which came on the ground — got six of those seven points back with 6:04 left in the game, as Baker scored on another one-yard run.
The Golden Eagles added its final touchdown of the 30-7 victory with 4:15 to play, as Logan Adams returned a punt 59 yards to paydirt.
Belpre visits Waterford in Week 10, while Eastern returns to East Shade River Stadium on Saturday for its season finale against 6-3 Southern.
