WATERFORD, Ohio — Finishing strong.
The Eastern volleyball team ended the year in second place, but the Lady Eagles also kept eventual-champion Waterford from going unbeaten in league play on Thursday night following a 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10 victory in the Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division finale for both programs in Washington County.
The visiting Lady Eagles (17-5, 14-2 TVC Hocking) built match leads of 1-0 and 2-1 through three games of play, but the host Lady Wildcats (15-1 TVC Hocking) rallied with a three-point in Game 4 to force the pivotal race to 15.
In the finale, EHS built leads of 4-0 and 9-3 and never trailed en route to completing the 3-2 triumph.
Kelsey Casto led the Lady Eagles with 18 service points, followed by Alexus Metheney with 13 points and Caterina Miecchi with a dozen points.
Jenna Chadwell was next with seven points, with Alison Barber and Kylie Gheen completing things with respective point totals of four and two points.
Eastern starts postseason play on Thursday it hosts the winner of the Ironton Saint Joseph and Belpre at 6 p.m.
