ATHENS, Ohio — The River Valley football team earned four first team spots and two special mention selections on the 2015 Associated Press All-Southeast District Division V team, as selected by a media panel from the district.
The Raiders, who finished 7-4 and earned the program’s first postseason berth, landed three players on the first team offense, and one first team defender.
RVHS senior Kirk Morrow earned his second straight first team nod at the wide receiver spot, after hauling in a team-best 48 passes for 829 yards and 10 touchdowns in the regular season.
Mark Wray, who was a special mention selection last year, earned first team as an all-purpose player in his senior season. In the regular season Wray had 556 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, 409 yards and four touchdowns receiving to go with a pair of special teams touchdowns and three field goals of 30 yards or longer.
River Valley senior quarterback Dayton Hardway, who was also a special mention in 2014, was named first team quarterback after completing 87-of-172 pass attempts for 1,372 yards and 13 touchdowns in the regular season. Hardway also had success on the ground this fall, rushing for 160 yards and three scores.
Leading the Raider defense, which pitched three shutouts this fall, was first team linebacker Justin Arrowood, who had 105 tackles and two sacks this season.
RVHS seniors Ty Smittle and Mike Williams both were named special mention after coming away with nine sacks apiece this season. Williams had 59 tackles, including 16 for a loss, while Smittle had 44 tackles and eight for a loss.
Wheelersburg senior quarterback Kyle Davis, who led the Pirates to an undefeated regular season, earned Offensive Payer of the Year honors, while Ironton’s Desmond Young took home Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Coach of the Year honors were split between Wheelersburg’s Rob Woodward, Alexander’s Alex Penrod and Zane Trace’s Dwane Hall. Woodward, who won the 2014 Coach of the Year outright, and Hall both coached their teams to unbeaten regular seasons, while Penrod coached the Spartans to a their first-ever Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division title.
