RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Sophomore Keri Lawrence captured an individual championship and led the University of Rio Grande women’s cross country team to a first-place finish in Friday’s RedStorm Classic at the Rio Grande Cross Country course.
The RedStorm had 15 points as a team in the first annual event, which attracted runners from four other schools, including NCAA Division I Kent State University.
The University of Pikeville was the only school among the remaining four participants with enough runners to produce a team score, finishing with 47 points.
Lawrence, a native of Reedsville, Ohio, completed the 5K course in 20:24 for the top finish among the 19 competitors.
Kent State junior Robin Foster, who along with teammate Morgan Manuel ran unattached, finished second with a time of 20:33, crossing the line just ahead of Rio Grande freshman Maggie Dellinger (Washington Court House, OH).
Rio sophomore Rachel Ball (Chillicothe, OH) was fourth in a time of 20:53 and Manuel completed the top five with a finish of 21:05.
Freshman Lucy Williams (Athens, OH), Rio’s top finisher in each of its previous meets, did not run.
