WILMINGTON, Ohio — Lucy Williams posted a top 10 finish to lead the University of Rio Grande women’s cross country team at Friday’s Jenna Strong Fall Classic hosted by Wilmington College.
Williams, a junior from Athens, Ohio, finished the 5k course in a time of 19:07 – good enough for a ninth-place finish among the 300 participating runners.
Junior Maggie Dellinger (Washington Court House, OH) also had a strong showing for the RedStorm, finishing 30th with a time of 19:52.
Rio Grande was also represented by sophomore Reaghan Haines (Hillsboro, OH), who finished 136th in a time of 22:04; sophomore Kelsey Miller (Georgetown, OH), who placed 138th with a time of 22:07; and sophomore Jennifer Case (McArthur, OH), who crossed 254th in a time of 26:13.
As a team, Rio Grande finished 17th in the 32-team field. The RedStorm finished with 438 points – one point behind Georgetown (Ky.) College for 16th place.
NCAA Division I Cleveland State University took the team title with 45 points, while Shawnee State (101), Miami-Ohio (124), Centre College (133) and Morehead State (151) rounded out the top five.
Karen Barrientos of Cleveland State had the top individual time with a finish of 17:59.
Rio Grande returns to action next Friday in its own RedStorm Classic. The women’s race begins at 4:30 p.m. The men follow at 5:15 p.m.
