GLOUSTER, Ohio — Talk about a tough Tuesday.
The Southern volleyball team fell in straight games to Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host Trimble on Tuesday evening inside Bill White Gymnasium, with the Lady Tomcats increasing their margin of victory in each game.
The Lady Tornadoes (4-9, 3-4 TVC Hocking) led just once, at 2-1, in the opening game, with Trimble leading by as much as nine en route to the 25-18 win.
Trimble surged out to a 10-point, 13-3 lead in Game 2, but Southern battled back to cut the THS advantage to just two points at 14-12. However, the Lady Tomcats outscored Southern 11-to-4 over the remainder of the game, as the hosts moved ahead 2-0 with a 25-16 win.
The Purple and Gold scored the first five points of the third game, but Trimble rallied back with a 6-0 run of its own. The teams exchanged leads four more times, before THS opened up a four-point lead at 14-10. Southern cut its deficit as low as one, but the Lady Tomcats didn’t relinquished their lead on the way to a 25-14 victory and a 3-0 sweep.
The Tornadoes’ service attack was led by Baylee Grueser with six points and one ace. Jaiden Roberts was next with five points, followed by Jane Roush and Julia Montgomery with four points apiece, including two aces by Roush and one by Montgomery.
