CHESAPEAKE, Ohio — This time, the Blue Devils didn’t get back up from being one goal down.

As a result, the Gallia Academy High School soccer squad suffered its second shutout of the season on Tuesday night, as the Blue Devils lost at Chesapeake 3-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt.

The host Panthers posted a single goal in the opening half, then tallied two more in the second for their first OVC victory of the year.

Chesapeake is now 1-3-0 in the OVC, while the Blue Devils fell to 1-2-1 in the league — part of 1-4-1 overall.

In the Blue and White’s four losses, they have been outscored by a count of 19-2.

Speaking of 19, the Panthers piled up that many shots, including six apiece by Dalton Nida and Cole Mills.

Jacob Martin finished with four, as Chesapeake kept GAHS goalkeeper Andrew Toler busy for the 75 minutes he minded the net.

Toler made eight saves, while senior Pierce Wilcoxon relieved him for the final five minutes and had three stops.

Unfortunately, by then, the Panthers put up all three of their goals.

Mills managed the first marker at the 28-minute mark of the opening half, then Martin made it 2-0 only seven minutes into the second.

Finally, with only 25:56 remaining, Nida knocked in the final Chesapeake tally.

Of the Blue Devils’ five shots, Day attempted all three of his in the first half, two of which missed and his third which was saved.

Gallia Academy’s other attempts were by Morgan Stanley with 25:25 to go, and by Francesco Russo with 21 minutes to play.

The Panthers also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Blue Devils return to the road, and return to non-league action, on Thursday night at Point Pleasant.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Black Knights netted a 4-0 win in the two clubs’ initial meeting at GAHS on Aug. 29.
