GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — Simply put, the Blue Devils turned a “180” — and turned the tables on the Fairland Dragons.
That’s because the Gallia Academy High School boys golf squad gained a measure of revenge, and defeated visiting Fairland 180-202 on Tuesday in a head-to-head tilt at Cliffside Golf Course.
In addition, the Blue Angels edged Eastern in a dual match, which also included Fairland, which had just two golfers.
Gallia Academy defeated the four-person Lady Eagles by 10 strokes — 239 to 249.
The top four scores counted towards the team total for both boys and girls, as the Blue Devils doubled up the Dragons in number of players 10-5.
The Blue Angels also sported 10 ladies on Tuesday.
For the Blue Devils, they evened-up their one-on-one matches against the Dragons, which defeated them earlier this season at Creekside Golf Course.
Fairland and Gallia Academy are members of the Ohio Valley Conference, as the two-time defending champion Blue Devils will seek a third consecutive league championship on Friday, Sept. 22.
At Cliffside, the Blue Devils’ sole senior Kaden Thomas fired a career-low 3-under par 33 to capture match medalist honors.
The clubs played the Cliffside back side, as Thomas racked up birdies on holes 10, 12, 16 and 17 — as his only bogey occurred at the par-3 15th.
It ties the lowest Blue Devil round in the last five years, as Dares Hamid had a 33 in 2013.
Cooper Davis with a 45, Reece Thomas with a 49 and Hobie Graham with a 53 were Gallia Academy’s other counting cards.
The first two non-counting scores were a 54 from Nick Mayes and a 57 from Elijah Baird.
Fairland’s five scores were a 47 from Reece Belville, a 51 by Mikhail Auxier, a pair of 52s from Conner Franklin and Kyle Slone, and a 54 from Mason Manns.
For the girls, sophomore Bailey Meadows mustered a 49 to lead the Blue Angels, as Molly Fitzwater with a 53, Bella Bonzo with a 63 and Lilly Rees with a 67 were the other counting scores.
Sydney Crothers shot a 70 and Caroline Evans added a 74 for the first two non-counting cards.
Eastern’s four scores were a 47 by Kylee Tolliver, a 56 by Katelyn Hawk, a 65 by Jasmine Brewer and an 81 by Alyssa Smith.
The Dragons’ two tallies were by Hanna Shrout with a 43 and Addi Speed with a 52, as Shrout claimed the match medalist.
Both Gallia Academy squads travel to Franklin Valley Golf Course on Thursday to face Vinton County.
