CENTENARY, Ohio — It didn’t take long, but the Blue Angels’ home opener was a huge success.
The Gallia Academy volleyball team needed less than an hour to claim a 3-0 sweep of Ohio Valley Conference guest Rock Hill, on Tuesday evening in Gallia County.
Gallia Academy (2-0, 2-0 OVC) allowed Rock Hill to record just one service point in the opening game, as the Blue Angels rolled to the 25-9 victory.
GAHS led wire-to-wire in the second, taking the game by a 25-15 count to move ahead 2-0 in the match. All six Gallia Academy servers scored at least two points in the third game, as the Blue Angels sealed the sweep with a 25-8 triumph.
“We’re working on our defense,” GAHS head coach Janice Rosier said. “We were practicing our movement, and we were able to get some more reps tonight. We started a little bit of new offense and we got to see it some tonight. We played a few different people in the back row and Grace Martin got to come back in tonight. We like seeing her back on the floor.”
The Gallia Academy service attack was led by sophomores Peri Martin and Alex Barnes with 10 points apiece. Grace Martin and Ashton Webb both had eight service points in the win. Hunter Copley was next with six points, followed by Katie Carpenter with five and Ryelee Sipple with three. Taylor Burnette rounded out the team total with one service point.
Sami Stamper led Rock Hill with three service points, followed by Makenzie Hanshaw and Abbi Kline with two points apiece. Taylor Hall, Kamryn Collins and Ally Neal each had one point for the Redwomen.
“We still have a ways to go,” Rosier said. “We keep improving and I look for us to be in good shape here in another week or so.”
The Redwomen will host the Blue Angels on September 26. Gallia Academy continues OVC play on Thursday, at Coal Grove.
