POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Luckily, with no seniors, it just ended up being a tough home finale.
The Point Pleasant girls tennis team dropped its fourth straight decision on Tuesday night following a pair of losses to visiting Chapmanville in two non-conference contests at The Courts in Mason County.
The host Lady Knights (9-6) dropped the first match — which was a continuation of an April 1 contest at CHS — by a 5-2 count, then the Red and White put up more of a fight in the finale before ultimately dropping a 4-3 decision to the Lady Tigers.
PPHS mustered win apiece in both singles and doubles play during the first event, and a second doubles match needed a tiebreaker to determine the final outcome.
Sarah Deem scored an 8-3 win over Sara Lambert in fourth singles, while the Point duo of Kenlee Bonecutter and Caroline Foreman netted an 8-5 decision over Ciera Stowers and Allison Walls in third doubles.
Cassidy Lewis landed an 8-2 win over Olivia Pyles in first singles and Myla Bryant scored an 8-6 win over Bailey Barnett in second singles. CHS completed its singles run as Savannah Toney earned an 8-2 win over Danielle Marcum in third singles.
Lewis and Toney defeated Pyles and Barnett by an 8-3 count in first doubles, while Bryant and Lambert netted a 9-8 win over Marcum and Deem in second doubles following a 7-4 tiebreaking win.
In the second match on Tuesday, the Lady Knights split decisions in the four singles events — but the Orange and Black won two of the three doubles competitions to wrap up the season sweep.
Barnett earned an 8-5 victory over Bryant in second singles and Deem outlasts Stowers by a 9-8 count in fourth singles after winning the tiebreaker by a 7-2 margin. Pyles fell 8-0 to Lewis in first singles and Toney earned an 8-1 decision over Marcum in third singles.
The Point duo of Marcum and Deem scored an 8-4 win over Bryant and Miranda Chaney in second doubles, which accounted for the hosts’ final victory.
Lewis and Toney earned an 8-0 win over Pyles and Barnett in first doubles, while Stowers and Walls claimed an 8-3 victory over Bonecutter and Foreman in third doubles.
Point’s Olivia Martin also scored an exhibition win over Chaney by an 8-5 count.
The Lady Knights return to action on Thursday when they travel to Ritter Park for a non-conference matchup with Huntington Saint Joseph at 4:30 p.m.
