CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Point Pleasant track and field teams combined for 15 top-six efforts on Friday during the 2017 Herbert Hoover Invitational held at Laidley Field on the campus of the University of Charleston.
The Lady Knights earned eight top-six finishes and placed third overall out of 17 scoring teams with 53 points, while the Black Knights had seven place in the top-six spots while tying Princeton for eighth place with 33.82 points.
A total of 21 boys teams scored in the 18-event competition, which Shady Spring won with 71.82 points. Nicholas County (61.82) and Capital (55.82) rounded out the top three spots in the standings.
Joseph Clark earned the lone individual championship for the Black Knights after winning the shot put event with a heave of 46 feet, 6 inches. Clark was also fifth in the discus with a throw of 113 feet, 4 inches.
Jesse Gleason was the discus runner-up with a throw of 126 feet, 9 inches. Eddie Mayes was fourth in the shot put (39-2.5) and Trevon Franklin was also sixth (38-4.5) in the shot put.
Steven Trent was third in the pole vault with a cleared height of 8 feet, 6 inches. Keydean Eta was also sixth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.59 seconds.
The Lady Knights also came away with two individual championships as Aislyn Hayman won the discus event with a throw of 131 feet, 7.25 inches. Hayman was also second in the shot put with a heave of 38-4.
Sami Saunders won the high jump event with an even leap of five feet. Madison Hatfield was third in the 400m dash (1:06.39), while Ariat Rollins was also fourth in the pole vault with a cleared height of five feet.
Morgan Roush also finished sixth in the discus event with a throw of 96 feet, 8 inches.
The 4x100m relay team of Hatfield, Teagan Hay, Sydnee Moore and Ashley Staats placed second with a time of 54.73 seconds. Hatfield, Moore, Hay and Hatfield also finished third in the 4x200m relay with a mark of 1:55.80.
