POINT PLEASANT — The annual Battle Days Pageant returned on Sunday to crown new festival royals and raise money for Mason County Toys for Kids, which makes Christmas happen for local children in need.
This year’s pageant, held at The Meeting House, saw 23 total contestants competing in five divisions. The emcee for the event was Brandy Sweeney, who is also the pageant director and a member of the Toys for Kids organization. Sweeney was joined onstage by Jerry Barkey who also assisted with introductions and announcements.
Taking titles this year were Miss Battle Days Jocelynn Wilson, Young Miss Battle Days Courtney Winter, Jr. Miss Battle Days Addyson Stein, Little Miss Battle Days Chloe Patrick and Little Mr. Battle Days Peyton Crum.
Wilson, who was also named Miss Photogenic, was sponsored by Sheriff Greg Powers. Wilson was joined in the Miss Division by First Runner-up Kellsi Anderson, who was sponsored by her family, and Second Runner-up and Miss Congeniality Charli Leach, who was sponsored by Willa’s Bible Bookstore.
Winter, who was also named Miss Congeniality, was sponsored by her family. Winter was joined in the Young Miss Division by Miss Photogenic and First Runner-up Kira Henderson who was sponsored by Victoria’s Prom and Bridal, and contestant Jasmine Rainey who was sponsored by her family.
Stein, who was sponsored by Stover Trucking Company, was joined in the Jr. Miss Division by Miss Photogenic and First Runner-up Emily King, who was sponsored by her family, Second Runner-up Delaney Roberts who was sponsored by her family and Miss Congeniality Kimberly Smith who was sponsored by LJ & Son Excavating.
Patrick was joined in the Little Miss Division by First Runner-up Katie Cullen, Second Runner-up Aiereonna Canterbury, Miss Photogenic Lyndee Taylor, People’s Choice Award Winner Marlee Carr, and contestants Makenna Nutter, Tasha Wilson, Emmaleigh Wilson, Abby Woodall, Kaylee Nance.
Crum was joined in the Little Mister category by Austin Sharp who came in second place and Itayus Canterbury who came in third place.
In addition, Roxanne Weaver and Ashley Cossin sponsored awards for contestants who donated the most toys for Toy for Kids. These awards went to Charli Leach and Emily King.
Saying goodbye to those gathered, were 2015 royalty Miss Battle Days Maggie Criste, Young Miss Battle Days Kate Henderson, Junior Miss Battle Days Emily Bale, Little Mr. Battle Days Caleb Heib, and Little Miss Battle Days Hadleigh Cossin.
The pageant is sponsored and supported by area businesses and individuals.
The new royals will be attending the Battle Days Festival this Friday-Sunday. Included in this year’s festival activities will be Saturday’s parade which begins at 11 a.m. on Main Street in Point Pleasant.
