Meigs commissioners approve JFS hirings

POMEROY — New hirings dominated the March 17 meeting of the Meigs County Board of Commissioners.

Chris Shank, of the Department of Job and Family Services, brought the majority of the day’s business before the commissioners.

Via the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, he submitted documentation confirming Brooke Pauley and Terri Ingels as county prevention specialists to the Southeast Ohio Regional Prevention Council, each for a two-year term beginning March 7.

The department also recommended three candidates following interviews. For the income maintenance division, the commissioners authorized Brittany Preast and Julie Tillis as eligibility referral specialists. In the child support enforcement division, Melissa Johnson was authorized as a child support case manager.

A resolution was adopted at the request of the county’s Department of Job and Family Services to fulfill responsibilities of Chapter 5153 of the Ohio Revised Code; the board approved entering a Title IV-E foster care contract with Health Recovery Services Bassett House.

In a previous meeting, the commissioners were approached by Middleport Village Council with a request to use grant money for a “splash park” instead of the originally purposed “skate park.” The commissioners advised the council that in order to re-purpose the grant money, it would be necessary for council to formally approve the change.

Village Council Clerk Sue Baker relayed that the council approved the change during Thursday’s meeting. The commissioners intend to have the grant’s office petition for this change in order for the project to move forward.

Financial matters included motions passed to pay bills of $47,416.57, as well as Now & Thens in the amount $19,400 and $25,000 to Baer Contracting LLC and DataPath Card Services, respectively.

The commissioners authorized an advance totaling $2,207.81 from County General into the Animal Shelter fund, and a new line item for the Animal Shelter Mortgage Fund, with funds to be used for said mortgage.

Commissioner Randy Smith was not present and excused in order to attend the Ohio State University agricultural agent interviews.

The swift and orderly meeting was adjourned after 25 minutes; Meigs County Commissioners meet in the Pomeroy Court House each Thursday at 11 a.m.
