Meigs Local board approves new hires

POMEROY — Meigs Local Board approved plenty of hires during Tuesday night’s meeting.

Members approved the hiring of Ben Eberts as a fifth-grade teacher at Meigs Intermediate School on a one-year contract; hired Kellie Trout as Title I teacher at Meigs Intermediate School on a one-year contract; and hired Sarah Guthrie as an intervention specialist at Meigs Intermediate School.

Katie Corbitt was approved as a teacher at Meigs High School on a one-year contract and Matthew Simpson was hired as district webmaster on a supplemental contract. The board also approved the hiring of Billi Jo Arnott as district EMIS coordinator on a one-year contract.

Regarding sports hires, the board approved the hiring of J. Scott Cleland as assistant varsity football coach for the 2015 season. Cleland was recommended by head varsity football coach Mike Bartrum. Members approved the hire of William (B.J.) Nicholson as the girls varsity golf coach for the upcoming school year. Lastly, Michael Kennedy was hired as head high school track and field coach for the 2016 season.

Members approved the hiring of Denise Lemponen, Melissa Morris and Teresa Carr as summer school tutors, and retroactively agreed to pay Aaron Oliphant and Christopher Derek Miller $12.50 an hour for their work during the Ohio River Medical Mission. The duo worked for the mission June 1-12. The two were reimbursed by the Ohio River Medical Mission.

The board approved the renewed membership with the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools Regional Council of Governments in the amount of $325. This membership will last from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. Members also approved the Parent/Students handbooks for the upcoming school year. Also approved were the budget and purpose statements for the upcoming year and the agreement with Julian and Grube for Medicaid Agreed Upon Procedures for this 2014 and 2015 fiscal years.

Members approved joining the Jefferson Health Plan Consortium for the 2015-16 school year for medical/prescription insurance, entering into a Purchased Service Agreement with Danny Greene and Matt Foster for summer technology support as recommended by Matt Simpson. Costs can’t be higher than $7,500 per the agreement.

Also approved was the entering into a Purchased Services Agreement with Gage Zirkle, Heather Eagle, Dillyn Ohlinger and Sydney Zirkle to assist in the preparation and support of the Ohio River Medical Mission held at Meigs High School. Expenses ($10 per hour) will be reimbursed by grant administered through Farmers Bank of Pomeroy.

The board approved entering into a purchased services agreement with Judy White for the July 1-Dec. 31, 2015, for cleaning, supplies, trash removal for the board/central offices. Costs can’t exceed $500 per month. The May 2015 Food Service Report, presented by Food Service Director Chrissy Musser, was also approved.
