GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia Sheriff’s Office and Gallia Dog Warden are currently investigating a report of two individuals attacked by canines running at large on the bicycle path near McCormick Road, Saturday afternoon.
“At approximately 1:49 p.m., the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a woman and her young child had been bitten by a pair of canines that were running at large on the bike path near the area of McCormick Road,” said a statement released by Gallia Sheriff Matt Champlin. “After the incident occurred, the woman reportedly drove herself and her child to Holzer Medical Center for treatment. The victims have since been transferred to medical facilities in Columbus where they are being treated.”
As of time of press, authorities have made searches in the area and have not located the animals. They are described as a black and white dog, potentially a Boxer breed, and another brown dog of a mixed breed.
“We urge anyone using the bike trail to proceed with caution and if they view any dogs running at large, please contact our office,” said Champlin.
