ALBANY — Voters in Meigs County’s Columbia Precinct joined voters in portions of Athens and Vinton counties in deciding on a 1 percent income tax for Alexander Local Schools during Tuesday’s election.
The proposed income tax failed by a vote total of 2,178 for the tax and 2,521 against the tax, a difference of 343 votes.
In Meigs County, 254 people voted for the tax, with 290 people voting against the tax.
This was the fifth attempt at a levy in as many elections for the district. The proposed income tax, at different levels (1.5 percent, 1.25 percent and 1 percent at different times) was defeated in November 2016, May and November 2017 and May 2018.
