Kickin’ Summer Bash begins Friday

POMEROY — The Kickin’ Summer Bash committee is inviting everyone out for the sixth annual festival held from the Ohio Pomeroy Levee on Friday and Saturday.

The festival main events will be focused along the river’s amphitheater and will provide food and entertainment.

Friday evening, from 4-8 p.m., the “Cruise In” sponsored by Mark Porter takes place on the lower area of the riverfront parking lot. Everyone is invited to come and either share their prize possession or vote for their favorite vehicle. The Cruise In welcomes all trucks, cars and motorcycles. Prizes will be given, in addition to trophies for the winners of the event. There is no entry fee.

The bounce inflatables will be available to the kids from 4-8 p.m. free of charge thanks to JD Drilling of Racine. Friday evening bands include K.L.A.S.I.C. Heat 6 to 8:30 p.m. followed by Marauder from 9-11:30 p.m.

Saturday’s lineup promises a full schedule of activities with the inflatables being ready for activity from noon to 8 p.m. sponsored by Ohio Valley Bank. Rockin’ Reggie, sponsored by Fox’s Pizza, will be spinning the tunes and playing games to provide entertainment from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the upper stage area.

The “Anything That Floats” race is set to begin at the Pomeroy Levee at noon. Participants of at least a two-person team must wear life jackets and build their float. The purse for this event is $250 sponsored by Simmons-Musser & Warner Insurance with first place, $125; second place, $75; and third place, $50.

At noon the decorated bicycle parade starts at Court Street. Bicycles must be decorated and ready to compete for the $100 purse. There are two age categories; 2 to 6 sponsored by Little, Sheets & Warner, and 7 & older sponsored by the Vaughan Agency will pay out for first place $25; second place $15 and third place $10 for each age category.

Beginning at 1 p.m., the pet contest begins in which owners must dress their pet in summer attire to enter. There are three categories; Most Talented, Best Dressed and Best Pet Owner Look-a-Like. The purse for this event is $300. Each category will pay out $100 for first place; $50 for second place; and $25 for third place. Pawpaw’s Dawgie Spa will have a special basket to award to the People’s Choice.

The kids’ talent contest, “We Got Talent II at 2 p.m., is being sponsored by PDK Construction. The purse is $100 with first place $50; second place $25; third place $15; and fourth place $10. At dusk the lighted pleasure boaters make their way circling the amphitheater in their own parade. The parade sponsor is Farmers Bank with a $200 purse; first place $100; second place $50; third place $25 and People’s Choice $25.

Wolfe Mountain Entertainment will delight the little ones with Muppet Characters, one of the Disney princesses and the Fairy Godmother by strolling around to meet the kids. The Zoot Suit Magician will also be among festival goers along with free face painting, free fingerprinting IDs for the kids, the Safety Pup, the county Hummer, fire trucks and much more.

Entertainment on Saturday includes the Riverside Cloggers taking the stage from 3 to 4:15 p.m., sponsored by People’s Bank. The popular game show “Let’s Make a Deal,” in which participants can win items, sponsored by Home National Bank and Steve Story Law, begins at 4:30 p.m. Bring some unusual stuff with you. The Zoot Suit Magician, sponsored by McDonald’s of Pomeroy and Hoon Inc., will take the stage from 5 to 6 p.m. South of the River Band will entertain us from 7-9 p.m. and Todd Berry closing the festival from 9:15-11:30 p.m.
