OU president announces launch of student leadership experience

ATHENS — Ohio University is announcing the launch of a new student leadership experience known as the “Presidential Leadership Society.” Soon after becoming the 21st president of Ohio University, Dr. M. Duane Nellis sought to create an experience that would enhance the University’s central mission — the personal and intellectual development of its students. This group of student ambassadors will serve as official representatives of Ohio University and the Office of the President at various presidential and University events throughout the academic year.

This group of leaders is an elite society of student volunteers who will give their time and talents to advance the priorities and initiatives of the Office of the President.

Through high-level training and regular interactions with University leadership, students will be prepared to serve as hosts for University guests at a variety of public and private functions, to support the mission of the Office of the President and serve as mentors to other students. These loyal Bobcats, having proven their leadership abilities through service to other student organizations and their involvement in campus and community activities, will be well prepared to represent the best that OU has to offer.

“I had the privilege of working with similar student programs at my previous institutions,” President Nellis said. “The professionalism with which they served our alumni and donors was unparalleled, and it is a wonderful way for students to enhance their resumes as they prepare to enter the workforce.”

Presidential Leaders possess a love for Ohio University and an ability to convey the University’s messages about the future in their conversations with various audiences. They will serve as role models for all students through their volunteer service to the University.

Their first official role will be to serve during President Nellis’ investiture ceremony at 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
