ROCKSPRINGS — The Meigs Local Board of Education awarded numerous contracts for the 2017-18 school year during its April board meetings.
One year, non-certified personnel contracts were awarded to bus drivers Steve Blackwell and Karen Dixon, custodian John McKinney, mechanic Thomas Tucker and assistant to the treasurer Debra Drake.
Two-year, non-certified personnel contracts were awarded to bus drivers Joey Ellis, Penny Hysell and Terry Rowe, custodians Melissa Priddy and Timmy Tillis, and cook Tammy Starcher.
Three-year contracts for non0certified personnel were awarded to EMIS coordinator Billi Jo Arnott, network technician Melissa Jo Llewellyn, and wellness/facilities manager Aaron Oliphant.
Continuing contracts for non-certified personnel were awarded to bus drivers John Gaus and Robert Vance, secretaries Amy Shipe and Lana Noble, and custodian Charles Rathburn.
Matt Simpson was re-employed on a five-year contract as the district’s technology coordinator.
Teachers employed on one year contracts included, high school teachers Guy Bing, Patricia Bodimer, Katie Corbitt, Jeran Cox, Richele Hecker, Robyn Howard and Adam Smith; middle school teachers Brittany Berman, Kaylee Chapman and Kelly Drummer; intermediate teachers Ben Eberts, Joey Waters, Eric Penrod, Savannah Sahr, Stephanie Schneider, Abby Stewart, Tracy Stone and Kellie Trout; primary teachers Amie Buffington, Tina Kelley and David Waters.
Three-year teaching contracts were awarded to high school teachers Richard Borders, Jennifer Dunn, Edmond Fry and Paul Jewell; middle school teachers Matt Ashcraft, Tonya McKee, Nicholas Michael, and Amanda Newsome; intermediate teachers Melissa Morria and Meghan Parry; and primary teachers Joy Hysell and Mandy Roush.
Five-year teaching contracts were awarded to high school teachers Kathy Hudson and Bruce Martin; middle school teachers Kayla Buckley, Justine Dowler, Emaly Schmaltz, Pamela White and Lena Yoacham; intermediate teachers Denise Lemponen and Carol Mahr; and primary teachers Penny Newland, Lisa Ord and Carin Taylor.
Carmen Manuel was rehired as a middle school teacher on a one-year contract according to the retire, rehire provision.
Mike Bartrum was rehired as the varsity football coach. Michael Kennedy was rehired as the head cross country coach for the high school. LeaAnn King was hired as the varsity volleyball coach. Tom Cremeans was hired as the high school golf coach for fall 2017 and the middle school golf coach for spring 2018.
The resignation of Sandra Walker, Title I teacher at Meigs Intermediate Teacher, was accepted effective Aug. 15 for retirement purposes.
The resignation of Rita Simmons, fifth grade teacher, was accepted effective Aug. 18 for retirement purposes.
The resignation of vocational agriculture instructor Kevin Sheppard was accepted Aug. 18 for retirement purposes.
The resignation of Joan M. Powers as a high school teacher was accepted for retirement purposes, effective May 31.
The resignation of sixth grade intervention teacher Deborah Allen was accepted effective Aug. 18.
Military leave was approved for seventh grade teacher Matt Ashcraft, per order of the Ohio Army National Guard HHC 371st Sustainment Brigade, for a one year deployment, tentatively April 27, 2017 to April 26, 2018.
Unpaid leave for 20.5 days was approved for Kelsey Sauters for educational training purposes.
The board recognized members of the Meigs Middle School archery team and the students of the month.
The transfer of $1,049.61 from the Meigs Middle School sixth grade fund to the Class of 2023 funds was approved.
Revised permanent appropriations were approved in the amount of $29,703,491.
