POMEROY — Evan Shaw, Ohio University’s director of multimedia marketing, has won the National Telly Award for Videography/Cinematography for his work with Ohio University football.

According to a release from Ohio University Athletic News, the Telly is a national award with over 13,000 entrants in the silver and bronze classifications to honor the very best local regional and cable television commercials and programs as well as the finest video and film productions. Shaw won the highest award given, the Silver National Telly.

The graduate of Meigs High school and son of Liz and Lynn Shaw of Meigs County, was also nominated for two Emmys this summer, one in the Sports Editor category for his editing work throughout the year. The other in the Sports Feature category, which he shares with Russ Eisenstein, director of broadcasting, for the “A Closer Look” segment, which recaps football games during the season.

Shaw and Eisenstein are described as working closely together and sharing the goal of making the broadcast presentation of OU’s “Closer Look” segments a superb product in shooting and editing.

June’s nominations mark the fourth of Shaw’s career. He won in 2007 for Student Production for “Gridiron Glory” with WOUB and in 2009 for Sports Photography. He also placed third in the nation for a video piece in the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators annual awards, and has been nominated for a National Sports Emmy for Outstanding Camerawork with NFL Films.

In addition he has been nominated for two Ohio Valley Regional Emmys. One nomination is for Sports Feature for a series of videos produced about Ohio Football’s 2009 season. The second nomination is for Sports Editing for a composite of his work throughout the year.

Evan’s enthusiasm for sports and video began as a student at Meigs High School where he played football under Mike Chancey and learned about video in Suzanne Bentz’s tech prep program.

After high school he enrolled at OU where he got experience as a videographer and producer for the WOUB Friday nighttime show “Gridiron Glory,” and as technical director for Newswatch. On the basis of his work there he was selected for an summer internship with the National Football League Films in 2006. After college he traveled around the country shooting games for the NFL for a couple of years, before accepting his current position with OU.
