POMEROY — Voters went to the polls to elect township trustees yesterday with shakeups in Olive and Scipio Townships.
In Olive Township, incumbents William R. Osborne and Jackie L. Westfall were defeated by challengers Timothy S. Epling and Paul Curtis. Epling received 320 votes, 254 went to Curtis, 153 went to Westfall, 147 went to Osborne, 79 went to Garry L. Bowman, Jr. The terms are for four years.
In Scipio Township, incumbent Robert Butcher was defeated by challenger Tammy Andrus. Incumbent Roger Cotterill retained his position as trustee. Cotterill received 209 votes, 178 went to Andrus, 167 went to Butcher, 106 went to Robert Vance. The terms are for four years.
In a close race in Columbia Township, incumbent Don Cheadle retained his position as trustee and will be joined by newcomer Marco Jeffers who defeated Gary E. Spencer by only one vote. Cheadle received 174 votes, 172 went to Jeffers, 171 went to Spencer, 96 went to Danny Demko, 70 went to Thomas A. Smith, II. The terms are for four years.
In Bedford Township, Jack R. Welker and Roger A. Ziegler were elected as trustees. Welker received 230 votes, 143 went to Ziegler, 118 went to Matt McGrath. Karen K. York and Brad Knotts both received 103 votes. The terms are for four years.
In Chester Township, incumbents Alan Holter and Blair Windon were reelected as trustees. Holter received 367 votes, 351 went to Windon, 325 went to Larry E. Life, 288 went to Tim Smith. The terms are for four years.
In Lebanon Township, incumbents Garry Smith and Donald R. Dailey were reelected. Smith received 116 votes, 105 went to Dailey.
In Letart Township, incumbents Bob Morris and Dave Graham were reelected. Morris received 162 votes, 155 went to Graham, 97 went to Michael Roush, 79 went to Keith White, 40 went to Rusty Tucker. The terms are for four years.
In Orange Township, incumbent Roger Allen Ritchie was reelected and will be joined by newcomer David L. Sheets. Ritchie received 202 votes, 129 went to Sheets. The terms are for four years.
In Rutland Township, incumbents Steven R. Lambert and Charles D. Barrett, Jr. were reelected. Lambert received 359 votes, 347 went to Barrett, 211 went to Mike Roush, 123 went to Tim Caldwell, 41 went to Bruce Postlethwait. The terms are for four years.
In Salem Township, incumbents Jack L. Ervin and H. Dannie Lambert were reelected. Ervin received 192 votes, 157 went to Lambert, 129 went to Delmas Goff, 50 went to Bill Cray. The terms are for four years.
In Salisbury Township, incumbents Bill E. Spaun and Manning K. Roush were reelected. Spaun received 747 votes, 560 went to Roush, 446 went to Bill Morris, 424 went to Roger L. Mowrey. The terms are for four years.
In Sutton Township, incumbents Jerry L. Hayman and Larry C. Smith were reelected. Hayman received 503 votes, 469 went to Smith and 273 went to Don P. Smith. The terms are for four years.
In a close race, incumbent Sari E. Putman-Suttle was reelected as fiscal officer for Olive Township, defeating challenger Kaleen Sue Hayman but just four votes. Putman-Suttle received 197 votes, 193 went to Hayman, 139 went to Mandy Bush. The term ends on March 31, 2012.
In Scipio Township, Karen A. Ridenour was elected as township fiscal officer. Ridenour received 293 votes. The term expires on March 31, 2012.
In Sutton Township, Roger Hysell was elected as a write-in candidate for township fiscal officer with 65 votes. The term expires on March 31, 2012.
Incumbents Gordon Winebrenner and Floyd A. Graham were reelected to the Syracuse Board of Public Affairs. Winebrenner received 203 votes, 113 went to Graham.
Voter turnout was at 42.62 percent in yesterday’s election.
