POMEROY — Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray will be the keynote speaker at the Meigs County Democratic Party’s annual Kennedy Day Dinner.
The dinner will be held Oct. 17 at the Riverbend Arts Council, Middleport. Tickets are $15 per person, $25 per couple, and will be available at the door.
A social hour will begin at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6. The program will follow. Charles Scott will provide dinner music for the event.
Cordray was elected attorney general last November. He previously served as Ohio Treasurer of State, Franklin County Treasurer, state representative, and as Ohio’s first Solicitor General.
An accomplished lawyer, Cordray has argued six cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and taught Constitutional law for 13 years at The Ohio State University’s law school. In 2003, he earned the Presidential Service Award from the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation for his work supporting legal services for the poor, and in 2000 the Human Rights Campaign named him “Humanitarian of the Year” for his efforts to promote tolerance and understanding.
Cordray earned a master’s degree with first-class honors from Oxford University in England and graduated from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was the editor of the Law Review.
He lives near Grove City with his wife, Peggy, and their young twins.
Cordray’s earliest claim to fame was as an undefeated five-time champion on the Jeopardy TV show.
“Attorney General Cordray represents the best of our party’s young leadership,” Chairman Henry Hunter said. “After great Democratic victories last year, it is important that the party’s faithful members continue to support our elected officials and help in their efforts to improve the lives of all Ohioans, and particularly Meigs County.”
In addition to Cordray’s remarks, the program will also include local and district elected officials.
