POMEROY — An arrest in the burglary of a local restaurant, thefts and traffic accidents are all currently under investigation by the Pomeroy Police Department, according to Chief Mark E. Proffitt.

In July, McClure’s of Pomeroy was burglarized twice with the second attempt happening on July 20, only this time a subject was taken into custody.

Harley F. McDonald, 28, Middleport, was arrested and charged with burglary in relation to the incident on July 20. McDonald has not been charged with the burglary of the restaurant which took place earlier in July where $2,082 was taken from the restaurant’s safe.

As for the alleged burglary on July 20, the Pomeroy Police Department reports shortly after midnight on July 20 McClure’s store alarm went off. An officer on the scene moments after the alarm sounded observed a window in the door on the drive-thru side of the building had been busted. Two witnesses on the walking path reported hearing the alarm go off and seeing a male running from in-between a church and the Pomeroy Ball Fields. An officer then patrolled in the direction given by the witnesses and picked up McDonald on the sidewalk on East Main Street. McDonald was then taken to the Pomeroy Police Department for questioning and in the official report he denies having anything to do with the incident.

Evidence was collected but not specified in the incident which remains under investigation. McDonald was incarcerated in the Middleport Jail then reprimanded into the custody of the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office to face a burglary charge in Meigs County Court.

Also under investigation, Marion Snider reported his apartment at 245 Union Avenue was broken into with medication, coins and around $75 in cash being stolen. Proffitt is investigating.

Donna Klein of 330 Mechanic Street reported a stereo stolen from her porch.

Nathan E. Cook, Pomeroy, was cited for assured clear distance, when a vehicle he was driving allegedly struck a vehicle driven by Jean J. Whobrey, Pomeroy, on Nye Avenue in front of the Par-Mar Store. No injuries were reported. Sgt. Ronald Spaun is investigating.

Robert J. Nance, Fort Myers, Fla., was cited for assured clear distance when a vehicle he was driving allegedly struck a vehicle driven by Floyd T. Chapman, Syracuse on West Main Street near Riverview Motors. No injuries were reported. Patrolman John Kulchar is investigating.
