POMEROY — An Easter egg hunt will be held on the Pomeroy football field at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.

Plans for the annual egg hunt were discussed at Tuesday’s meeting of the sponsoring Pomeroy Merchants Association. It was noted that Jennie Dunham will again chair the hunt with the Merchants providing $350 to cover the cost.

Bill Quickel, president, reported on the March 23 Taste of Home event to take place at Meigs High School and noted that all of the tickets have now been sold.

Christmas holiday activities were discussed with Susan Clark noting that things are moving right along with plans for the home tour on Dec. 6. The need for additional decorations for downtown Pomeroy along with how to enhance the village for the holidays was discussed.

Members were alerted to the bad check passing which took place in the village last week and were advised to be aware of shoplifting which is occurring in local stores.

The closing of CertifiChecks, Inc. which handled the Meigs County Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Buck program was reported by Quickel. ChamberBucks have been issued as prizes for various activities as a way of keeping local money circulating in the county rather than being spent somewhere else. The Chamber reported earlier that some ChamberBucks issued have not been redeemed. Those holding the certificates should contact that office.

Some discussion was held on whether the Pomeroy Merchants Association could issue gift certificates to be redeemed in stores which are members of the Association.

Work by Bobbi Karr and Susan Clark is continuing on getting new banners for the period light posts around town. A colorful floral design will be used on one set of the banners, and some consideration is being given to a second set featuring items relating to businesses in town.

John Musser announced that Alice Wamsley will serve as flower chairman for the downtown area again this year. She was commended for her dedication to planting and taking care of the flowers last year.

Jo Dunn, chairman for the MHS junior prom to be held on a sternwheeler leaving from the Pomeroy levee on May 2, asked Pomeroy merchants to consider staying open that night. She said many parents and friends will be in town to watch the boat go out and come back in, and it might present a good time for shoppers to browse in the stores. Several merchants thought it was a good idea.

Edna Weber reported on the sale of ornamental bulbs noting that 17 of the new bridge with the 2006 date, the time originally scheduled for completion, and 28 of the ones with the 2009 date are still available.

The possibility of purchasing either reusable or disposal shoppers bags was discussed with Jane Harris to check into availability.

Again discussed at the meeting were summer festivals. The Gold Wings and Ribs Festival will be held the first weekend in June. Rhythm on the River concerts will begin on June 26 and will be held every Friday until July 30 when the Big Bend Blues Jazz begins.

The possibility of expanding the offerings on the Friday concert nights by including a farmers market and business open hours was discussed.

Quickel noted that on July 25 the Gospel on the River sing will be held featuring “His Song” and Christine Davis. It is sponsored annually by the Pomeroy First Southern Baptist Church.
