Defenders storm pass Calvary, 6-2

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — The Ohio Valley Christian soccer team defeated Calvary 6-2 Tuesday night to improve to 7-3-0 on the season.

Chance Burleson got the game started quickley with a goal in the first minute of the game to put OVCS up one. Carter Bentley tied the game up at one with a goal in the fifth minute for Calvary. Bentley gave the guests the lead in the 23rd minute, but Burleson gave the lead back to the Defenders with two goals in the 35th minute. The first of Burleson’s goals at the 35th minute came on a free kick from 22 yards out, and his second goal of the minute gave him the hat trick and the Defenders the 3-2 halftime lead.

Caleb McKitrick scored his first goal of the game 30 seconds into the second half off of the Richard Bowman assist. Just minutes later McKitrick added another goal, this time the assist was from Rachel Haddad. Burleson got his fourth goal of the game in the 67th minute and Ohio Valley Christian took the 6-2 victory.

Burleson had four goals for the Defenders, while McKitrick had two. Mckitrick, Haddad and Richard Bowman each had an assist on the night. Marshall Hood recorded three saves for the victors while Calvary’s goal keeper had nine saves. OVCS held a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal, as well as a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
