RIO GRANDE, Ohio — One week after a record-setting win against Kentucky Christian University, the University of Rio Grande women’s soccer team found itself taking an eraser to the program’s history book once again.

Kasey Crow equaled a school record with four goals and assisted on another to lead the RedStorm in a 9-3 rout of the University of the Cumberlands, Wednesday night, in Mid-South Conference action at Evan E. Davis Field.

Crow tied the single-game mark for goals which was established in last week’s win over KCU by fellow freshman Courtney Young.

Crow did set a new school record for points in a game with nine - two for each of the four goals and one for the assist.

The nine goals scored by Rio also set a new single-game team record, topping the previous mark of seven set in last Wednesday’s 7-1 triumph at Kentucky Christian.

The RedStorm improved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the MSC with the victory, just four days after being on the short end of a 9-0 shellacking at the hands of Cumberland (Tenn.) University.

Crow’s big night overshadowed an outstanding individual performance by one of her teammates, junior forward Alex Davis, who had three goals and an assist of her own.

Davis’ assist came on a goal by senior defender Venessa Montgomery just 8:50 into the contest and gave the RedStorm a 1-0 lead.

Crow and freshman midfielder Taylor Ahrens scored unassisted goals just 25 seconds apart to make it 3-0, before the Patriots got on the board at the 16:09 mark when Ginger Johnson scored on the rebound of her own miss on penalty kick.

Davis got her first goal just 12 seconds later and scored again off an assist by Crow at 18:40 to extend the RedStorm’s lead to 5-1.

Crow scored again, rifling a shot past Cumberlands goal keeper Autumn Williams from 12 yards out on the right wing, to push the cushion to 6-1 with 10:14 remaining before the intermission. Senior defender Katie Fuller was credited with an assist on the play.

Crow earned hat trick honors with an unassisted marker just under eight minutes into the second half, but the Patriots (2-4, 0-2) scored again when Toni Dempsey found the net on another penalty kick attempt, slicing the deficit to 7-2 at the 61:45 mark.

Davis completed her hat trick and established a new team scoring mark just over two minutes later with an unassisted goal, before Cumberlands got its final tally of the night at 71:16 when Esme Purkis scored off of a loose ball in the front of the net following a corner kick.

Crow rounded out the scoring and tied Young’s record with her fourth goal of the night with 6:35 left in the contest.

Rio outshot the Patriots, 17-9. All but one of the RedStorm’s shots were on goal.

Sophomore net-minder Allison Keeney stopped two shots en route to her fourth win in five decisions. Williams had five of her team’s seven saves in a losing cause for Cumberlands.
