Dear Editor:

There has been a lot of talk recently about the Freedom of Choice Act, which President Obama has vowed to sign. Many people have the idea that this only deals with abortion, so it doesn’t concern them. Wrong!

If this legislation passes, there will be innumerable repercussions. The FOCA not only allows for tax-funded abortions, but distribution of the morning-after pill on demand as well as medications to assist with suicide. Hospitals will be mandated to meet these demands.

Many of the Catholic hospitals in the country will close their doors because of their belief in the sanctity of life. Hospitals like St. Joseph’s in Parkersburg, W.Va., and St. Mary’s in Huntington, W.Va. I’m not saying this will happen, but it could. Many people in this area depend on the services from both institutions. It would be a big blow to the economy as well as the health of many folks were this to take place.

I urge everyone to contact your U.S. representative and senators, telling them you are opposed to the Freedom of Choice Act.
