CHESHIRE — The Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency’s summer crisis program which began June 1 will continue through Aug. 31 or until funds are depleted, Sandra Edwards, emergency services program director, announced Friday.

She said that there are air conditioners this year, but there are limitations as to who is eligible to receive one since determination is made on the basis of income eligibility and current medical condition.

To qualify for services, Edwards said the household must be “income eligible with a member who has a current qualifying medical condition/breathing disorder, with up-to-date physician documentation from a medical professional, or an income eligible household with an applicant who is 60 years of age or older, or an income eligible household that has a disconnection notice from their electric utility.”

She said that then they may receive one payment for an electric bill up to the current bill or PIPP Plus, and, possibly an air conditioner, but that the total amount cannot exceed $250. As for the required medical forms, Edwards said the forms may be picked up in any of the agency’s offices. She emphasized that priority will be given to elderly clients. To make an appointment with an agency representative, residents may call either 367-7341 for Gallia County or 992-6629 for Meigs County.

Edward explained that eligible clients must bring, with no exceptions, the following documentation when they come for an appointment. Proof of income (3 months/13 weeks) at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, the names, birth dates, and Social Security cards of all household members, along with the birth certificate for the applicant, electric bills which must be in the applicant or the spouse’s name, and medical documentation or disconnect notice if under 60 years of age. Without the documentation, no assistance can be given.

The annual income eligibility, as listed by Edwards is as follows: one person in the household, $22,340, two persons, $30.260; three persons, $38,180; four persons, $46,100; five persons, $54,020; and six persons, $61,940. For households with more than six members, an additional $7,910 can be added per member.

She said that applications will be taken from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, in the Cheshire Office at 8010 N. State Route 7, Cheshire, Ohio, 45620
