Dear Editor,

I had some thoughts about the effects of that voracious storm our area had on Friday, June 29. So many lost electricity and water. There were precious few businesses operating where one could buy food or gas.

I am wondering about the employees who soldiered through the non-stop lines of people who needed supplies.

Those few businesses that were up and running had the monopoly on the market, so to speak — as no one else could sell. Employees at some establishments worked in sweltering conditions, most likely short-handed because many of the staff could not get there for one reason or another.

These employees worked tirelessly to help those in need. Yes, I’m sure they were paid their wages but, here is my question — the businesses had to have made so much more profit than on a usual week where every business is up and operating and everyone is selling.

Will these few businesses share their profits with the employees who helped make it possible for them to earn these profits?

My guess is, probably not — and it’s a shame!
