Dear Community Partner:

Did you know?

• Every 10 to 13 seconds a child is abused in this country.

• Five children a day will die as a result of child abuse.

• Approximately 3 million cases of child abuse are reported each year in the United States and many of these reports include multiple children.

• In 2009, Childhelp.org estimated that 6.6 million children were involved in reports and allegations of abuse. Further, these statistics do not account for the cases that go unreported in our country and in our counties.

As part of prevention efforts across the nation to reduce the cases of child abuse, with the hope of living in a world where children are safe from abuse, April has been recognized as Child Abuse Prevention month. Woodland Centers Inc. and Children Services in Gallia County are working collaboratively to promote awareness and prevention of child abuse in Gallia County.

On Thursday, April 19, we are asking all community agencies, schools and businesses to help increase awareness of child abuse by wearing blue on this day. If you would like to participate on April 19 by wearing blue, please contact Amanda Knipp at Woodland Centers Inc. 740-441-4425 so that we can add your agency, school or business to our list. We plan to use this list in public service announcements to promote “Blue Day” throughout the community to assist us in raising awareness of child abuse in Gallia County.

Please join us as we advocate for our children. Awareness is often the first step to prevention. Thank you for your support and participation.

Sincerely,

Amanda Knipp, PCC-S
