Evans elected president of Southern school board

RACINE — Gary D. Evans was elected president of the Southern Local School Board at the board’s recent organizational meeting.

While Evans was elected president, Don Smith was elected vice-president.

The following school board members were then appointed to various committees and associations. Evans was appointed as the liaison to the Ohio School Board Association. Dennie Hill was appointed as the delegate to the Ohio School Board’s Association Annual Conference. Smith was appointed as an alternate member to serve as legislative liaison to the Ohio School Board Association. Evans and Richard Hill were appointed as negotiations representatives for the Ohio Association of Public School Employees, while Smith and Peggy Gibbs were appointed as negotiations representatives for the Southern Local Education Association. Evans was appointed as the OAPSE labor committee member.

Meetings were also set for 8 p.m., the fourth Monday of the month in the Southern High School Media Room.

A service fund in the amount of $2,000 was established for the Southern Local Board of Education.

The board approved a treasurer’s bond in the amount of $20,000 with the cost of the bond paid by the board of education.

Also approved was the board president’s bond in the amount of $20,000 with the cost of the bond paid by the board of education.

Present for both the organizational and budget hearings were school board members Evans, Dennie Hill, Smith and Gibbs.
