MIDDLEPORT — Middleport Community Association has begun tentative plans for 2009 events, and will begin its new year membership drive next week.

The membership drive will officially begin Tuesday, with the mailing of a renewal notice to members, and the association plans an insert application in The Daily Sentinel later this month. Dues have been increased for 2009, to $15 for individuals and $35 for business members.

Ohio River Bear/Basket Games will be the first event of the year, on March 31. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. at the Middleport firehouse, and games will begin at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit association activities, including July 4 festivities in Dave Diles Park. A second game night is planned for Oct. 6, and proceeds from that event will go toward holiday promotions.

A home and garden tour and tea is planned for June, and a date will be determined.

The association will hold its annual Pumpkinport Fall Festival from 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 17 in Diles Park. The Christmas parade will be held on Dec. 5.

The association will resume its Lunch Along the River fundraisers in April, and will continue them on the last Friday of each month through October. The menu will vary, and lunches will cost $5. Proceeds will go toward the village’s July 4 fireworks display.
