GALLIPOLIS — Gallipolis City Police will out collecting donations on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for its Hat Drive, an effort to raise funds to buy Christmas gifts for children.
Officers will be at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Smithers Street, commonly known as the Wal-Mart intersection, and will be on foot in the roadway accepting cash donations in their uniform hats, said Sgt. Matt Champlin.
Officers will then work in conjunction with Gallia County Children Services to use those monies collected to provide gifts for children who may otherwise go without a Christmas this year.
“We feel very fortunate this holiday season and it is our goal to extend our hand and reach out to those we serve and help make this Christmas special for everyone,” Champlin said.
If anyone wants to give but cannot be in the affected area during the time of the collection, donations can be dropped off in a sealed envelope marked with the words “Police Hat Drive” at the police department office in the City Building on Monday, Dec. 8 through Friday, Dec. 12 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
“We at the police department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to drive safely and wear their safety belts this holiday season,” Champlin said. “From our families to yours, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
