RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Five local cross country programs were amongst the teams to compete at the 2016 Patty Forgey Invitational held on the campus of the University of Rio Grande in Gallia County.
Gallia Academy, River Valley and Point Pleasant each had multiple teams compete at the event, with Eastern also fielding a team in the girls race. The EHS boys and South Gallia girls also had a handful of entrants in their respective races, but neither had enough runners for a team score.
Starting in the boys division, Hurricane defeated 18 other schools to win the the team title with 40 points. Rock Hill was the overall runner-up with 83 points, while Caldwell was third with 103 points.
The Raiders placed fourth with 172 points and the Blue Devils were sixth with 193 points, while the Black Knights finished 19th with a tally of 499 points.
Russell Carroll of Hurricane defeated 212 other competitors to win the boys race with a time of 16:44.99. Matt Seas of Peebles was the overall runner-up with a mark of 16:58.77.
Nathaniel Abbott led RVHS with a 20th place effort of 18:16.03, followed by Kyle Coen (18:47.54) and Chance Gillman (18:50.29) with respective finishes of 32nd and 33rd.
George Rickett (19:13.73) and Garrett Young (19:44.36) completed the Raiders’ tally with 45th and 62nd place efforts. Rory Twyman (19:57.03) and Caleb McKnight (20:08.77) also had respective finishes of 68th and 72nd.
Kyle Greenlee led all the locals and Gallia Academy with a 15th place effort of 18:02.18, followed by Caleb Greenlee (18:10.68) and Kaleb Crisenbery (19:20.77) with placements of 17th and 50th.
Devon Barnes (19:38.74) and Ezra Blain (20:39.79) completed the GAHS scoring with respective finishes of 56th and 81st. Mitchell Bolin (21:35.70) and Grant Smith (21:37.36) also placed 103rd and 106th, respectively.
Luke Wilson paced PPHS with a 36th place finish of 18:56.80, followed by Tanner Durst (24:08.95) in 166th and Wyatt Dean (25:00.76) in 175th.
Ethan Scott (25:05.13) and Isaac Daniels (26:12.14) respectively placed 176th and 184th, while Byron Fisher was also 210th overall with a mark of 34:45.56.
Colton Reynolds had the top time for Eastern with a 42nd place effort of 19:10.05. Matt Clingenpeel (20:44.40) and Eion Marcinko (21:28.69) also finished 83rd and 98th respectively.
There were a total of 160 runners and 16 teams in the girls event, with Liberty Union coming away with the team title after posting a winning score of 33 points. Eastern was second with 79 points and Fairland was third with 88 points.
Gallia Academy placed seventh with 155 points, while River Valley (243) and Point Pleasant (376) earned respective finishes of eighth and 15th.
Sydnee Mangette of LUHS was the individual champion with a winning mark of 18:31.14. Jenny Seas of Peebles was the overall runner-up with a time of 18:45.10.
Jessica Cook led all locals and the Lady Eagles with a fifth place finish of 20:38.55, followed by Ally Durst (21:33.71) and Laura Pullins (22:13.99) with respective efforts of 11th and 16th.
Taylor Palmer (22:42.46) was 24th overall and Kaitlyn Hawk (23:32.74) completed the EHS scoring by finishing 38th. Rhiannon Morris (23:36.89) and Lexa Hayes (27:27.31) also placed 39th and 97th respectively.
Mary Watts led the Blue Angels with a 12th place effort of 21:36.79, followed by Mesa Polcyn (21:47.64) in 13th and Brook Johnson (22:17.83) in 18th place.
Abby Johnson (24:40.27) was next in 60th place and Cassidy Starnes (27:04.56) completed the GAHS scoring in 94th place. Sabrina Manygoats (27:18.67) and Eliza Davies (28:57.65) also had respective efforts of 95th and 116th.
Leanne Hively led the Lady Raiders with a 35th place time of 23:15.11, followed by Kaylee Gillman (23:54.44) and Beth Gillman (25:02.46) with respective finishes of 46th and 67th.
Josie Jones (25:40.05) was 72nd overall and Sophie Branham (26:27.92) completed the RVHS tally by placing 84th. Yolanda Andre (26:30.22) and Julia Nutter (28:35.74) also earned respective finishes of 85th and 111th.
Allison Porter led the Lady Knights with a 49th place time of 24:01.18, followed by Karson Bonecutter (27:47.90) in 101st and Cierra Beatty (27:59.27) in 104th. Tanner King (29:37.49) and Tayllor King (32:17.83) completed the PPHS tally with respective finishes of 124th and 138th.
Jessica Luther led South Gallia with a 58th place time of 24:35.66. Autumn Norris was also 122nd overall with a 29:25.60 for the Lady Rebels.
