LANCASTER, Ohio — No team scores, but the experience was still worth it.
The Southern cross country team had six runners compete Saturday in the Division III races at the 2016 Bob Reall Invitational held at Lancaster High School in Fairfield County.
The Tornadoes had two competitors in the 50-man boys race, while the Lady Tornadoes had four entrants in the 59-competitor girls event. Both groups had at least one runner finish in the top-25 of each contest.
Junior Conner Wolfe earned the overall runner-up spot in the D-3 boys race after posting a second place time of 17:09.6. Only Austin Hallabrin of Mount Gilead was faster as the senior posted a winning mark of 16:55.1.
SHS senior Lucas Hunter also finished 39th out of 50 runners with a time of 21:02.7.
Fairfield won the D-3 boys event with a team tally of 28 points. Mount Gilead was second out of six teams with 33 points, with Fairfield Christian (96), Worthington Christian (103), Piketon (133) and Nelsonville-York (163) rounding out the final standings.
Freshman Baylee Hack of Mount Gilead won the D-3 girls race with a time of 20:05.8. Zane Trace senior Ivy Beam was the overall runner-up with a mark of 20:50.8.
Freshman Sydney Roush paced the Lady Tornadoes with a 25th place effort of 24:26.5, followed by sophomore Mallory Johnson with a mark of 25:42.7 for 33rd place.
Freshman Baylee Wolfe was 37th overall with a time of 26:46.5 and sophomore Madison Lisle was 39th with a mark of 27:05.4.
Mount Gilead won the D-3 girls event with a team tally of 30 points. Fairfield Christian was second out of nine teams with 61 points, with Zane Trace (82), Fairfield (96) and Cardington-Lincoln (126) rounding out the top five positions.
Nelsonville-York (170), Belpre (172), Piketon (190) and Grove City Christian (219) rounded out the six through nine spots.
