WAVERLY, Ohio — The Ohio Valley Christian girls basketball team had 10 different players reach the scoring column Thursday night during a 67-10 victory over host Pike County Christian in a non-conference matchup.
The visiting Lady Defenders (4-9) never trailed as Emily Childers scored eight points during a 19-2 first quarter surge, then the freshman tacked on six more as part of a 15-4 run that enabled OVCS to secure a 34-6 advantage at the break.
Emily Childers and Abby Cox combined for 13 of the guests’ 19 third quarter points, which allowed the Blue and Gold to secure a 53-8 edge headed into the finale. Sarah Johnson had 10 points as part of a 14-2 fourth quarter finish, which wrapped up the 57-point outcome.
Emily Childers led the guests with a double-double effort of 21 points and 11 assists, followed by Johnson and Katie Bradley with 10 markers apiece. Childers also had a team-best six steals for the victors.
Cox and Rachel Sargent each contributed six points, while Kristen Durst ad Ashley Childers added four markers apiece. Laura Johnson, Olivia Neal and Cori Hutchinson rounded out the winning tally with two points each.
Ashley Childers led OVCS with eight rebounds, while Sargent added nine assists, seven boards and five steals. The Lady Defenders made three of their 31 field goals from behind the arc and also went 2-of-6 at the free throw line for 33 percent.
Shaunta Garman, Brittany Garman, Avary Perry, Aidan Perry and Sara Tackett each scored two points for the hosts, who made only four field goals and went 2-of-4 at the charity stripe for 50 percent.
