CENTENARY, Ohio — Simply put, everyone else was battling for second.
The Gallia Academy wrestling team posted nine top-four efforts while beating the 18-team field by over 100 points Tuesday en route to winning the 2015 Coach’s Corner Classic championship in the GAHS gymnasium in Gallia County.
The Blue Devils earned four individual titles and had three more runners-up on their way to a winning tally of 376 points. Caldwell, which tied GAHS with four individual champions of its own, was second overall with 271 points.
Warren (219.5), Jackson (218) and Vinton County (194) rounded out the top-five, while River Valley was sixth overall with 194 points. Meigs finished 12th with 115 points and Eastern placed 14th with 51 points.
Justin Reynolds won the 182-pound division for GAHS, while the trio of Caleb Greenlee (106), Kyle Greenlee (113) and Jared Stevens (120) won all three lightweight titles for the hosts.
Kaleb Crisenberry finished second in the 145 weight class, while Hunter Jacks and Anthony Sipple were respective runners-up in the 160 and 220 divisions. Ryan Terry placed third overall at 170 pounds and Morgan Stanley was fourth in the 126 weight class.
George Williams was the lone Raider to come away with an individual crown after winning the 152 division. Jacob Edwards (113) and Jeremiah Dobbins (132) also placed second in their respective weight classes for RVHS.
Trae Hood suffered his first loss of the season while leading Meigs with a second place finish at 195 pounds. Daniel Hysell also placed third in the 285 category for the Marauders.
Eastern’s lone top-four effort came from Chase Williams, who finished fourth overall in the heavyweight division.
Besides GAHS and Caldwell, Warren was the only other program to have more than one individual champion as the Warriors earned two titles. RVHS, Southeastern, Jackson and Alexander also came away with one championship apiece.
