BELPRE, Ohio —A rough road trip.
The Belpre boys basketball team defeated the visiting Wahama White Falcons 70-53 in a Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division matchup on Friday night in Washington County.
Wahama (2-3, 2-2 TVC Hocking) led its conference foe 15-9 after one quarter of play. The White Falcons scored 15 points in the second period, but the hosting Golden Eagles (4-4, 3-2) put up 19 points to keep pace. The Red and White led 30-28 at halftime.
The home team roared to the front in the third quarter with 23 points, while the White Falcons scored only seven in the period. Belpre led 51-37 heading into the finale. The Wahama offense woke up in the fourth quarter, but the damage was already done.
Phillip Hoffman and Ryan Thomas led Wahama with 12 points. Noah Estep finished with eight points, followed by Mason Hicks with seven points. Travis Kearns and Nolan Pierce had five points and four points respectively for the Red and White. Noah Litchfieled had three points, while Ricky Kearns contributed two points for the White Falcons.
Tavian Miller led the Golden Eagles with 20 points, followed by Mythius Houghton with 10 points. Kaurice Waderker and Brayden Longfellow each contributed nine points for Belpre.
The White Falcons finished the game shooting 18-of-51 field goals (35 percent), while the Golden Eagles shot 28-of-61 from the field. Belpre had 37 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals in the contest, while Wahama finished with 30 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals. The Red and White had 23 turnovers in the contest and Belpre turned the ball over 15 times.
Wahama will travel to Federal Hocking on Tuesday.
