ASHTON, W.Va. — Now that’s how you close out a home win.
The Hannan girls basketball allowed visiting Point Pleasant to score just two points over the final eight minutes of play Wednesday night at HHS, as the Lady Wildcats capped off the 55-32 victory.
Hannan (2-3) outscored the Lady Knights (0-3) 16-to-13 in the opening quarter, and the hosts expanded their lead to 31-21 by halftime.
The Lady Wildcat lead was pushed to 11 after outscoring the guests 10-to-9 in the third period. Hannan shut the door on Point Pleasant with a 14-to-2 fourth quarter run, sealing the 55-32 triumph.
HHS senior Clarissa Crank led the victors with 17 points, followed by Pamela Ochs and Madison Staggs with 11 each. Josie McCoy finished with eight points in the win, while Anna Taylor and Lindsey Holley rounded out the Hannan scoring with four points each.
The Lady Wildcats shot 17-of-45 (37.8 percent) from the free throw line and committed 16 fouls in the win.
Morgan Roush paced the Lady Knights with 11 points, followed by Peyton Campbell with six. Michaela Cottrill, Allison Henderson and Ashlie Flory each posted four points, Skylar Woodall added two, while Lanea Cochran marked one point in the setback.
PPHS shot 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the charity stripe and committed 31 fouls. Cottrill, Campbell and Henderson each fouled out of the contest.
These teams will meet again on February 18, in Point Pleasant.
Hannan returns to action on Monday at Rose Hill Christian, while the Lady Knights’ next game is on Saturday at River Valley.
