ATHENS, Ohio — Back on track.
The River Valley girls basketball team picked up its sixth victory of the season with a 49-33 win over host Athens in a Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division matchup in Athens County.
The Lady Raiders (6-1, 3-1 TVC Ohio) were in control from the opening quarter and the Lady Bulldogs (1-7, 0-4) struggled to keep the pace.
The Silver and Black led 14-6 after the first period of play. River Valley kept the offensive pace going in the second quarter. The visitors led 27-13 heading into halftime.
Athens outscored the Lady Raiders 11-7 in third quarter, but the Silver and Black maintained a 34-24 edge heading into the final quarter. Five successful free throws from Leia Moore in the fourth period helped keep the visitors in front.
Moore led the Lady Raiders with 13 points — including going 8-for-11 from the charity stripe. Shelby Brown and Erin Jackson each had nine points for the Silver and Black, followed by Tianna Qualls finished with eight points. Courtney Smith had six points, while Leia Moore and Carly Gilmore each contributed two points for River Valley.
Alexis McCollum paced the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points, followed by Emma Harter and Claire DeBruin with seven points each. Sophie Miller contributed three points for Athens.
River Valley will host Eastern on Wednesday in Bidwell. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
