RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The struggle is real.
The River Valley boys basketball team fell to visiting Oak Hill 49-31 on Saturday as a part of the 10th annual Newt Oliver Coaches Classic at the University of Rio Grande in Gallia County.
The Oaks led 18-4 after the first quarter of play. The Raiders (1-6) put up eight points in the second period, but OHHS took a 31-12 lead into the break.
The Silver and Black outscored Oak Hill 12-10 in the third quarter, as the Oaks took a 41-24 into the final quarter of the contest.
The Raiders shot 12-of-39 field goals (31 percent) in the game, while the Oaks made 20-of-39 shots (51 percent) from the field. River Valley finished the contest 5-of-8 from the free throw line (63 percent). Oak shot 6-of-11 (55 percent) from the charity stripe.
Jacob Dovenbarger led the Silver and Black with 13 points, followed by Kirk Morrow with seven points. Ian Polcyn contributed six points for the Raiders, Jared McCarley finished with five points.
McCartley and Morrow each had two assists for River Valley, while Haiden Burdette had one assist.
Nolan Carroll led the Oaks with 14 points, while Dennis Fleming had 12 points. Mitchell Hale and Ethan Kallner finished with six points apiece, followed by Landon Carroll with five points for Oak Hill.
River Valley will try to end its six game skid at Athens on Tuesday night.
