ONA, W.Va. — The Point Pleasant boys basketball team fell to Mountain Mission 70-56 in a Cabell Midland Tournament matchup on Friday night Cabell County.
The Challengers led 26-16 after one quarter of play, despite nine points from Douglas Workman. Both teams scored 14 points in the second quarter, but MMHS led 40-30 going into the break.
Cason Payne and Will Harbour scored a combined nine points in the third quarter, but the Blue and White led 53-29 after three periods. The Big Blacks battled back in the fourth quarter with 17 points, but the Challengers matched Point Pleasant’s points in the quarter to take the win.
Workman and Payne led PPHS with 12 points each, followed by Harbour with 11 points. Bradley Gibbs finished with eight points for the Big Blacks, while Trenton Tucker and Trey Tucker contributed five points and two points respectively.
David Saczews paced Mountain Mission with 19 points, followed by Dina Zdor with 16 points. Osae Tshiebwc finsihed with 12 points and Turide Akinrimmade contributed seven points for the Challengers.
Point Pleasant returns to action Saturday at the Cabell Midland Tournament, then will host Winfield on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
