JACKSON, Ohio — The River Valley and Meigs wrestling teams kicked off their seasons Saturday at the American Legion Post 81 Invitational, hosted by Jackson High School.
The Raiders — who were seventh with a score of 127 — had five top-4 finishers, while the Marauders — who took eighth with a total of 95 — had a quartet of top-4 grapplers.
RVHS freshman Jacob Edwards took home the Raiders’ lone first place finish, going 2-0 to win the 113-pound weight class. Finishing third for the Raiders were junior Grant Gilmore and sophomore Jeremiah Dobbins in the 160 and 132 category respectively. Gilmore went 4-1 overall, while Dobbins was 1-2.
River Valley senior Dakota Doss went 3-2 to take fourth at the 220 level, while Raiders freshman Nathan Michael was 2-2 and claimed fourth in the 170 weight class.
The Marauders were led by junior Trae Hood, who was 4-1 overall and claimed second in the 195-pound weight class. Meigs senior Daniel Hysell claimed third in the 285 category, going 4-1 overall. MHS senior Robert Hoffman was 3-2 at the 126 level, placing him fourth, while sophomore Tyson Still claimed fourth in the 195 weight class, following a 2-2 performance.
Zane Trace, which had four first place finishers, won the invitational with a score of 210.5, followed by McClain with a total 166. The host Ironmen were third with a 165 score, while New Lexington and Vinton County tied for fourth with scores of 160.5.
