WELLSTON, Ohio — River Valley’s great start to the season continues.
The RVHS girls basketball team improved to 5-0 Monday night, as the Lady Raiders defeated Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division host Wellston, by a 47-29 final tally in Jackson County.
The Lady Raiders (5-0, 2-0 TVC Ohio) allowed just two points through the opening eight minutes of play and charged out to a 12-point lead. Wellston (0-5, 0-1) outscored the guests 12-to-10 in the second quarter, but the Silver and Black held a 24-14 lead at halftime.
The Lady Golden Rockets managed just two points in the third period as well, allowing the Lady Raiders to expand their lead to 32-16. River Valley edged its host by a 14-to-13 margin over the final eight minutes, securing the 47-29 victory.
RVHS senior and Fairmont State University signee Leia Moore led the Silver and Black 13 points, followed by Tianna Qualls with nine and Erin Jackson with seven. Courtney Smith and Shelby Brown both marked six points, Maggie Campbell added four, while Jaden Neal rounded out the River Valley scoring with one marker.
Jaci Jeffries led the Lady Rockets with nine points, followed by Alexis Green with eight and Amber Kisor with six. Tory Doles contributed five points, while Jasmyn Wilson rounded out the WHS scoring with two points.
River Valley — which hosts Alexander on Thursday in a battle of TVC Ohio unbeatens — will look to sweep Wellston on January 14, when the Lady Rockets invade Bidwell.
