WILMINGTON, Ohio — The University of Rio Grande men’s cross country team posted a 11th place finish in Friday’s #2015 Jenna Strong Fall Classic at the Wilmington College Cross Country Course.
The RedStorm had 290 points as a team – one of 36 who participated in the meet – and had the best finish among the five Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams who ran.
Junior Dallas Guy (Buffalo, OH) had Rio’s best finish individually, placing 24th among the 349 runners on the 8k course with a time of 26:15.1. Fellow junior Blake Freed (Uhrichsville, OH), who had the top finish for the RedStorm in each of their two previous outings, was just behind in 25th at 26:15.5
Also competing for Rio in the event were senior Matt Engstrom (Dover, OH), who crossed in 53rd place with a time of 27:01; freshman Mike Norris (Dayton, OH), who was 55th after finishing with a time of 27:07; freshman Phil Colbert, who was 221st with a time of 29:51 in his RedStorm debut; freshman freshman Dustin Edens (Westerville, OH), who was 243rd with a time of 30:26; and freshman Brody Ferris (New Philadelphia, OH), who placed 281st in 31:50.
Berea (Ky.) won the overall team title with 79 points, while Miami-Ohio (155), Heidelberg (166), Ohio Dominican (188) and Wooster (223) completed the top five.
Joseph Mullen, who ran Unattached, had the top individual time after crossing the line in 25:02.
Rio Grande returns to action on Friday when it hosts the RedStorm Classic. Race time is set for 5:15 p.m.
