POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Senior running back Justin Brumfield scored four first half touchdowns as seventh-seeded Point Pleasant won a home playoff game for the fifth consecutive season on Saturday night during a 63-14 Class AA victory over 10th-seeded Philip Barbour at Ohio Valley Bank Track and Field in Mason County.

The Big Blacks (9-2) scored the first 49 points of regulation and forced three first-half turnovers that led to 14 points, allowing the hosts to take a comfortable 42-0 advantage into the break.

Brumfield — who rushed for 182 yards on 18 carries in the first half — had TD runs of 5, 4, 5 and 29 yards, while Cason Payne added a 3-yard TD run and also connected with Tucker Mayes on a 9-yard scoring pass en route to a 42-point intermission advantage.

Josh Wamsley hauled in a 1-yard pass from Payne at the start of the third for a 49-0 edge, but the Colts (8-3) finally broke into the scoring column with 4:16 remaining in the third as Hunter Mason scored on a 5-yard run for a 49-7 contest.

Mayes hauled in a 16-yard pass from Payne and Logan Southall added a 17-yard TD run for a 63-7 Point Pleasant cushion headed into the fourth.

Mason tacked on a 2-yard run with 2:29 left in regulation to complete the 49-point outcome.

The Big Blacks outgained the guests by a sizable 494-183 overall margin, which included a 256-60 advantage in rushing yards. PPHS was also plus-1 in turnover differential.

Brumfield led the hosts with 19 carries for 211 rushing yards, while Payne went 15-of-23 passing for 241 yards — throwing three scores and one interception.

Mason paced PBHS with 33 rushing yards on 12 carries. Damien Gonzales was 10-of-15 passing for 123 yards and an interception.

Point Pleasant will travel to second-ranked Bluefield (11-0) on Saturday for a second round playoff contest at 1:30 p.m.
